The “Background” cleanup, to remove all man-made contamination, was to be completed by 2017, but the site-wide cleanup has not yet begun and has been reduced to a cleanup that will allow 95% of the site’s contamination to remain onsite permanently — even though this will put the environment, wildlife, water sources, and people living nearby at continued risk.
